Week 12 Report

ahlfingerz

In Week 12, the group completed the list of potential solutions to be added to the Pugh Charts and began listing criteria to apply to each of the solutions. After completing the list of solutions and drafting rough sketches of each, the group met with Mike Sabo at UN&UP to discuss each of the solutions. Going through each of the solutions, we discussed the pros and cons of each and how viable it would be to implement each solution. Although we went into the meeting thinking the obvious choice was to use the syringe pump, we made considerations for each solution including their cost and ability to be tested in the time we have for the capstone project. After listing the pros and cons, the group asked clarifying questions on testing and other criteria we should consider. Mike provided his input on each solution and suggested a few alternatives that we should consider before making a decision. The group has made the temporary decision on the y-shaped connector solution to be the solution that we move forward with and fully test, however, changes may be made during prototyping. In addition to choosing a solution, Mike also explained how testing could work for whichever solution we choose since we are not designing the system that comes after the treatment and nanoparticles leaving the pump.

In the upcoming weeks, Bert is responsible for making a rough assembled on CAD software to show how the chosen solution will work. Quinlan is responsible for continuing research on the magnet orientations and magnetic fields that we will use for the solution. Zane is responsible for additional research and further design ideas for the device. In addition to upcoming responsibilities, the group has also contacted and will be asking questions to stroke researchers and physicians at the WashU medical school about criteria we should consider and any additional feedback/needs that we need to address when designing the device.
